Yuming Xu
Building Performance Designer

Fifteen years ago, I was sitting on a riverbank in the ancient town of Fenghuang, China. Fascinated by the shape of the nearby vernacular pillar-supported dwellings, I sketched them with a deep curiosity. I now recall that this was the precise moment that ignited my interest in architecture. Deciding to study civil engineering at UC Davis was one of the most fortunate decisions I ever made. Laboratory-based engineering courses at UC Davis trained me to design experiments, observe processes, interpret results, and compose scientific reports, all of which are crucial for my future career.

In light of my desire to design zero net energy buildings, I decided to complete a Master of Science program and focus on building science and sustainability at UC Berkeley. In September 2019, I joined the Center for the Built Environment as a graduate student researcher and worked on different research projects. My time at UC Berkeley was fulfilling because I met all the outstanding professors and researchers and found my passion in sustainable and high-performance building design. I am excited to be part of the MEYERS+ and put my energy into the team.

Did you know?

I love road trips and hiking with my friends. I wish I could visit all the National Parks someday in the future. Besides all the outdoor activity, I am also really into tech and could sit down and watch hours of tech videos straight.
