Simon Gardiner
Associate, Building Performance Specialist
I spent my youth on various building sites in Australia thanks to my parents who were maniacal renovators, "flipping" houses way before it was cool. I spent plenty of time helping with whatever tasks needed attention, or more likely getting in the way. Once I reached my teens I was finally a useful member of the team and relished the chance to take a stack of raw materials and turn them into something both functional and beautiful. These childhood experiences helped to develop my interest in buildings, architecture and design.
After graduating from Monash University with a degree in mechanical engineering, I sought to continue my career in the building industry where I could bring my passion for design and construction to a larger canvas. My career has allowed me to travel the world — from Melbourne to London, Amsterdam to San Francisco. Wherever I go, I constantly look at the built environment to try to understand the goals of the designers and to find inspiration for my work.
Did you know?
I love the outdoors. When Iām not at work my favorite place to be is outside, running, cycling, skiing, hiking, anything which will take me into nature. This is why I chose to live in San Francisco, there is nowhere else in the world with jaw dropping natural beauty so close to the urban center.

“A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”
