Growing up in the Amish farm country of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, I knew from an early age I was interested in the building industry. Building with Legos was always a favorite activity as a kid (I still get excited when my kids get them!), and I loved drawing houses and floor plans. Later in high school I took to technical drawing, and the close attention to detail. Through most of high school I dreamed of one day being an architect, until I learned how much artistic vision is expected. Since I’m more of a math and science guy, I entered the Architectural Engineering program at Penn State. It was a fun and exciting program, and best of all, I spent my college life explaining to other students and family members that I was NOT studying to become an architect. I settled into the lighting/electrical option, which called to me the most as a good balance between numbers and design. As my senior year approached, California had not been remotely on my radar as a place to start my career, but an interview with Flack + Kurtz’s San Francisco office and seeing the variety of projects they worked on changed that in a hurry. Visiting the office and meeting the people I could be working with put San Francisco at the top of my list.

After graduation, with not much more than two suitcases in hand I made the journey west and joined the F+K team. Before I knew it, I became immersed in the challenging world of large-scale projects like professional sports venues and large high-rise office towers – the kinds of projects I never thought I’d be having the opportunity to work on. Just as quickly, the team around me became good friends, almost like family.

My journey through the engineering world and life in the Bay Area has continued for more than 25 years now. I have met my wife, and settled down in the suburbs, where we are raising our two sons. I was excited by the opportunity to join the Meyers+ team and reconnect with many of the original Flack + Kurtz family from years past, and I look forward to the journey that lies ahead.

Did you know?

Outside of the engineering world, I’m an avid runner. Not that I’m a speedster or was ever an Olympic hopeful, but I’ll try almost any challenge related to running.
