FOOTPRINT CENTER - PHOENIX SUNS ARENA RENOVATION

The project is the $230 million renovation of the Phoenix Suns Arena in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, home to the National Basketball Association's Phoenix Suns. Improvements include major renovations, expanded and upgraded fan amenities and updated and expanded MEP systems. MEYERS+ teamed with Affiliated Engineers’ Phoenix office to deliver the project.

The Project is targeting LEED.

The project delivery method is design-assist, where M+ worked with prequalified subcontractors to deliver multiple design/permit packages, coordinating real time with field conditions while the arena was operational and under construction.

MEYERS+ is the mechanical and electrical engineers-of-record for the interior remodeling work and sports lighting system.

MEYERS+ is providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and sustainable design services for the project.

ENGINEERING FEATURES

M+ provided total cost of ownership (TCO) and payback studies to test the sensitivities of installing a new on-site chilled water plant in lieu of retaining the facility’s existing connection to a local chilled water district plant.  These studies informed the design of a new chilled water plant for the arena due to significant life cycle cost savings.

MEP systems were upgraded and expanded to all Food Service spaces within the Arena and separate Commissary building to provide an entirely new food and beverage experience.

A combination of retrofitted and new MEP systems were designed to make way for five additional Premium Club spaces.
