Nate Lara
Electrical Designer

I wouldn’t be in this chapter of this journey called “life” if it weren’t for my Filipino immigrant parents. They’re my daily reminder that with an unwavering passion and will to chase your dreams, success is inevitable in the face of adversity. While growing up and attending Catholic school in the Bay Area, my perfectionist habits made identifying a subject of interest to be difficult. It wasn’t until the summer before senior year that I interned at an engineering firm in Berkeley and discovered my natural affinity for engineering. Studying under the principal engineers, I learned how to experimentally determine an unknown cause of failure and devise an argument rooted in engineering theory. Following in my older brother’s footsteps, I spent my first few years of college studying mechanical engineering.

During shelter in place, the stock market “SPAC boom” in EVs, Lidar, and Renewables led me to switch my major to electrical engineering and finish with a minor in mechanical engineering. I also had the opportunity to join the Industrial Assessment Center program at San Francisco State University, further enhacing my studies. I was fortunate enough to be mentored and trained in industrial energy systems and auditing by Dr. Ahmad Ganji.

My passion for the industry was ignited knowing my work is contributing towards the pursuit of a clean energy future. I’m blessed to be embarking into the forefront of building innovation with the Meyers+ team, a team full of driven engineers striving to make a real-world impact.

Did you know?

I ran cross country in high school and had the same coach as Olympic gold medalist Shannon Rowbury? I competed in the two largest meets in the nation, the Mt. Sac and Manhattan Invitational. As varsity captain my senior year, our team broke nearly every school record, placed top 10 in the 3-course challenge in Seaside Oregon, and competed at the California State Meet.
