Kevin Lao
Plumbing Engineer
Growing up as a valley kid in Granada Hills, California, my father was the one who piqued my interest in engineering. In the City of Los Angeles, he’s a civil engineer working on designing highways. At home, he was an energetic dad that always bugged me to help with small house projects. Well, only if you consider a BIG backyard chicken pen a small house project... Add a few experiences of messing around with tools, an overactive imagination, and one too many trips to the local Home Depot and you get a kid who started to wonder more about engineering design, and what makes things tick.
This lingering interest was what pushed me to try and follow in my dad’s footsteps as an engineer, though I chose mechanical rather than following his footsteps into civil. After graduating from UC Merced, my curiosity grew as I learned more about Mechanical and Plumbing designs in homes and stores. Every finished project filled me with a small sense of pride, as well as a determination to learn new and better ways to improve my designs. Now as I work in Meyers+ I’m excited to tackle new challenges so I can become as adaptable and innovative as my other colleagues and become an engineer who always strives to improve.
Did you know?
During my college days, I was actually the head dance coordinator for the Filipino Cultural dance group of a collegiate cultural club. We ended up performing all around the campus for various events for a two years and even did an event outside our campus in the surrounding city. Now this doesn’t mean I can just bust a move on the spot, but when it comes to ballroom dancing and a certain dance with sticks I might I know a thing or two!
