Jonathan Larsen, PE
Senior Associate, Mechanical Engineer
I was born and raised in the Bay Area by a family of machinists, engineers, and mechanics. As a child, I spent many hours in my Grandfather’s machine shop and in my Dad’s garage, always asking questions about how things worked. I grew up hearing stories about our ancestors coming to San Francisco from Denmark at the turn of the 20th century. They found jobs as contractors and are credited with laying bricks for numerous famous buildings and the iconic cable car tunnels that still exist beneath the city streets today. I always knew I wanted to follow in my family’s footsteps, which eventually led me to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
After my first year of college, I quickly realized that my true passion was finding a way to help improve the quality of life for others and protecting the natural environment around me. With sustainability as my focus, I eventually landed a job at a career fair and moved to San Francisco in 2014 to begin my life as a HVAC design engineer. It wasn’t long before I was out in the field, climbing around on rooftops and going into the basements of buildings that I grew up seeing as a child.
I am excited to be joining a team of passionate engineers at MEYERS+ and look forward to working on first-class sustainable buildings that push the limits of the built environment.
Did you know?
If I wasn’t an engineer, I would likely be a martial arts instructor. I was introduced to Tae Kwon Do when I was 6 years old. It quickly became my after-school hobby and eventually turned into a part-time job teaching kids while I was in high school. After over 20+ years of training, I still appreciate being a student and learning new skills from others. It is an addicting sport that really pushes one to their highest potential, both physically and mentally.

“If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.”
-Bruce Lee
