Jason Lee
Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer
Growing up, as far as I can remember, I was always building and taking apart things. During the summer of fifth grade, I moved from New York City to a small town about half an hour outside of Philadelphia because my parents had opened a restaurant there. I spent a lot of my time in the restaurant kitchen – tinkering with broken down equipment in attempts to fix them and playing around with old spare parts. When I was not at the restaurant, I was often roaming around town with my friends looking for scraps to play around with. My most proud and memorable childhood project was building a treehouse with my friends in one of their backyards. We only used materials that we found around our houses and amazingly, this treehouse is still standing today.
After a lot of consideration between several majors that interested me, I started my freshman year at Temple University as an architect major. I was working part time at a neighborhood auto body shop during my time at Temple University. I was fortunate the employees at the auto body shop took the time to teach me how to do maintenance and repairs on cars. Working in the auto body shop reminded me of the things I loved to do growing up and fueled my decision to change my major to pursue a career in mechanical engineering during my sophomore year.
At MEYERS+, there are so many opportunities to work on impactful projects. I am proud to be a part of a team of diverse, and incredibly smart colleagues who share a passion in creating, innovating, and building spaces for people to live, work and play.
Did you know?
I didn’t start my career in engineering immediately after graduating from Temple University in 2014, instead, I worked at my uncle’s business for about three years. The plan was for me to learn the business and then inherit it after his retirement. The business consists of selling materials and goods imported from China to consumers in the New York City area. I eventually lost passion in the business, so I went back to school to The City College of New York where I got a Master of Mechanical Engineering degree. During my studies at The City College of New York, I got an internship at a MEP firm which started my engineering career as a Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer.
