CALIFORNIA COLLEGE OF THE ARTS
California College of the Arts is an art, design, architecture, and writing school with campuses in San Francisco and in Oakland. Founded in 1907, it enrolls approximately 1,500 undergraduates and 500 graduate students.
The project for the San Francisco campus included a new 90, 000 SF building and the re-programming and renovation of 50,000 square feet in the existing building at 1111 Eighth Street. The program included heavy maker spaces for ceramics, glass blowing, metal arts, print making and textiles.
The project is seeking LEED Platinum Certification.
The project delivery method was design-bid-build. MEYERS+ is the engineer of record for the project.
MEYERS+ provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing & fire protection and energy modeling services for the project.
ENGINEERING FEATURES
The CCA campus will include a microgrid with over 400 kW of solar PV arrays, commercial grade battery storage and a microgrid control and monitoring system.
The Campus is targeting net-zero carbon with low energy, high performing HVAC systems and water recycling. The design team is working with CCA to research options for a low carbon art program.
