MEYERS+ ENGINEERS

A New York State of Mind

I grew up on the Upper East side of Manhattan in the 60’s – 1st Avenue was cobblestone, a pizza slice was 15 cents and the Beatles and Stones permeated the airwaves.

I loved the streets of the city and grew to know them well. After school I would climb construction fences where decaying five story walkups were being demolished to make way for the white brick high-rise buildings creating housing for the doctors and professionals working at nearby Cornell Medical Center. I can still smell the scent of demolished brick and rubble as I wandered about and explored. Is that where my love of buildings started? I think so, but I never imagined that over fifty years later I would have my own mechanical and electrical engineering consulting firm specializing in high-performance building systems in an Art Deco high-rise building in mid-town Manhattan!

I loved New York but left in 1978 to find my way in San Francisco, where I worked for the venerable firms SOM, Flack + Kurtz, and WSP. I took a leap in 2014, starting MEYERS+ ENGINEERS from scratch with valued colleagues who knew and trusted each other. With our focus on superior technical excellence and client service, the firm grew rapidly and in 2021 we opened MEYERS+ ENGINEERS in New York.

From years of working together at WSP and Flack + Kurtz, I knew and trusted Patty McCaffery, Joe DelPozzo and Frank Muscarella . They joined MEYERS+ as principals and in 2021 started our New York office at 275 Madison Avenue. Through their deep experience and diligence, the office has grown rapidly, and we’ve taken on expanded space in our building to support our growth.

I learned life from the hard pavement and bustle of the greatest city on earth. While I no longer physically climb fences, I hope that spirit is infused in our practice and that we can share it with our valued clients and industry colleagues on future collaborations.

Looking forward to working together,

Randy Meyers
